2022 Honda Civic vs Toyota Corolla

When it comes to your commute, you want a car that offers a fun drive, great gas mileage, a comfortable ride, and peace of mind. Both the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla check all those boxes; however, which one is right for you?
To help drivers in Gulfport, Long Beach, and Biloxi, MS, decide, Pat Peck Honda looks at what these vehicles have to offer in this 2022 Honda Civic vs. Toyota Corolla comparison.
Specs & Fuel Economy
The 2022 Honda Civic offers a convenient drive, with an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway MPG in the LX trim.1 To help you enjoy that kind of efficiency, it runs on a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that gets up to 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. A 2.0L engine is also available to offer a sporty performance, with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque.
The Toyota Corolla can also get up to an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway MPG. However, it’s not as much fun to drive. While it also has two engines, both powertrains fall short of the Honda’s. The 1.8L base engine only gets up to 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. The Corolla also offers a 2.0L powertrain, although it can only produce 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque.
Passenger Space & Cargo Room
On top of covering a lot of ground between trips to the pump, the 2022 Honda Civic also provides a comfortable drive. There’s seating for five and plenty of space to stretch out, with 99 cubic feet of passenger space. This gives tall drivers enough room up front, while offering enough space for your passengers to relax. It’s even wide enough for three people to sit together.
The Toyota Corolla also has seating for five; however, it’s a smaller car and could feel cramped inside. Not only is the ceiling lower—the backseat may feel like a tight squeeze for your passengers.

The Honda Civic is also prepared to bring a lot of bags home, with 14.8 cubic feet of trunk space. The Toyota Corolla can’t carry quite as much. With only 13.1 cubic feet of cargo room, you’ll have to pack light or make multiple trips to the store.
Safety & Driver-Assistive Technology
In addition to offering a fun, comfortable drive, the Honda Civic also keeps you safe, with a series of smart, driver-assistive features.
It starts with Honda Sensing®. This bundle of safety technology comes standard and helps prevent accidents, with the following features:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System™
- Road Departure Mitigation System
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Traffic Sign Recognition System
You’ll also be able to see what’s around your car via the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera. It uses your dashboard monitor to show you what’s behind your Civic and offers three camera angles, including a top-down view and a wide angle.
The Toyota Corolla also comes with a series of standard safety features and a rearview camera. However, its camera system only has one camera angle, so you won’t have as much awareness when you’re backing up.
Test Drive an Exciting Compact Car
